Meals on Wheels was mentioned as one of the local programs feeling the effects of the federal budget sequestration in a recent story in the Star Tribune. An 81-year-old Brooklyn Park Meals on Wheels client and Metro Meals on Wheels Executive Director Patrick Rowan were among those interviewed for the article.

Because each Meals on Wheels program receives varying amounts of federal funding, Metro Meals on Wheels' 35 member programs are feeling the cuts to varying degrees. Most local programs are making due this year with reserve funds, but the ongoing sequestration could affect service in 2014 if Congress is unable to reach a deal to lift the across-the-board spending cuts.
