How to get involved with Meals on Wheels this Thanksgiving Season!

Walk to End Hunger Fundraiser - Meals on Wheels

Thanksgiving is around the corner and we are heading into the busiest time of the year! Learn about how you can participate and support Meals on Wheels this year during No Hunger November.

Join us in The Walk to End Hunger

One family-friendly opportunity to support Meals on Wheels this November is The Walk to End Hunger! Join us in fundraising for No Hunger November, with an invitation to walk the interactive route on your own schedule at the Mall of America! Anytime the Mall is open in the month of November, participants can walk the first floor loop and search for secret code words along the walk route, completing a passport for a chance to win prizes like a $250 Mall of America Gift Card!

The Walk is a great opportunity to talk about and experience the importance of helping others with your family. It’s a perfect way to give back before you give thanks! All of the money raised goes to hunger relief organizations in the Twin Cities. You can sign up to walk and fundraise specifically for Meals on Wheels here. Feel free to join our team or make your own with friends and family!

How to participate:

Volunteer in the Meals on Wheels Kitchen of Opportunities

Our Meals on Wheels Kitchen of Opportunities is located at 3025 4th Avenue S. in Minneapolis and its busiest production time is in the days leading up to Thanksgiving! Volunteers in the kitchen help prep and package food as well as get meals ready for daily delivery. Volunteers can sign up for a one-time volunteer shift, or a recurring opportunity, whatever works best for your schedule. We can accommodate groups of up to 5 people at a time in the kitchen. Generally, shifts are 2 hours long, Monday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The kitchen will not be open on Thanksgiving Day. Check out availability and sign up for a shift here!

Sign up to deliver meals

Most member Meals on Wheels programs in the Twin Cities area deliver an extra meal to be reheated for the holiday in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. If you are interested in delivering meals in November or anytime, please head on over to our volunteer page to learn more and sign up!

Information for current meal recipients:

All Meals on Wheels programs will be offering an extra meal for recipients that’s delivered earlier in the week so that they will still have a meal on Thanksgiving. If you have any questions about how you will receive meals during the week of Thanksgiving, contact your local Meals on Wheels program or Metro Meals on Wheels at 612-623-3363.

Thanksgiving Meals on Wheels

Thanksgiving Meals on Wheels is a stand-alone organization that is not affiliated with Metro Meals on Wheels. The event unfortunately will not be happening this year due to the ongoing pandemic.

Other ways to support Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels is always accepting donations to support our work of providing seniors and those living with disabilities with warm, nutritious meals. If you want to help in our efforts you can donate to Meals on Wheels.
