Getting to know our VISTA, Cory Georgopoulos

Cory Georgopoulos is an AmeriCorps VISTA member and has been working at Metro Meals on Wheels since last August. VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) is a program where members make a one year commitment to work on a special project at a nonprofit organization or public agency.

The goal of VISTA members is to provide behind-the-scenes assistance to organizations in order to help them build organizational stability. Cory chose to be a VISTA member because she wants to focus on public service, giving back, and also has an interest in working with nonprofits.

While at Metro Meals on Wheels Cory has worked to find a software that provides online trainings for volunteers, and is also a place where they can schedule volunteer shifts. She has been successful in her search for this software, and says it is a great tool for volunteers. Meals on Wheels volunteers will soon see the benefits of Cory’s work on this project!

Cory says her experience with Meals on Wheels has been a good one, and that she is happy with her decision to work here. She’s enjoyed learning new things, and has also appreciated the responsibility that she’s been given as a young professional.

When her year at Metro Meals on Wheels ends she plans to attend grad school for public policy, and potentially work with immigration issues. In the long term she wants to find a job in public service, – supporting a good cause. She is thankful that she has had the opportunity to work at a place like Meals on Wheels, where she knows the work she is doing has a direct and lasting effect.

Thanks to Cory for dedicating her year as a VISTA member to Meals on Wheels!
