Ways to support Meals on Wheels this holiday season
Many folks are already thinking about how they can give back during Thanksgiving and the holiday season. With Thanksgiving and other holidays centered around a shared meal, what better way to help your neighbors than by pitching in to ensure they have access to nutritious food during the holidays and beyond?
Here are a few options for you and your family to get involved with Meals on Wheels as we look toward the holidays.
Make your gift go further on Give to the Max Day
If you make your gift Nov. 1-16, as part of Give to the Max Day, you can unlock a matching donation from the Richard M. Schulze Foundation. Minnesota’s largest online giving event, Give to the Max Day also offers the opportunity to unlock more than 150 bonus prizes for Meals on Wheels.
Thanksgiving Meal Delivery and Volunteer Opportunities
Most of our Meals on Wheels programs deliver an extra meal for reheating in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. With programs still serving 40% more individuals than prior to the pandemic, many are in need of regular volunteers.
Programs are especially in need of volunteers during the winter when many regular volunteers head to warmer locations or don’t feel comfortable on the roads. Learn more about volunteering for Meals on Wheels.
Information on Meals Served Only on Thanksgiving Day
Loaves and Fishes operates a number of dining sites throughout the Twin Cities. If you are looking for a meal or to volunteer specifically on Thanksgiving, contact them at 612-377-9810 to learn more about their plans to serve people around the holiday.
