Meals on Wheels Thanksgiving 2022

Walk to End Hunger participants play games at the Walk

On a day centered around one big meal, no one should have to think about where their Thanksgiving dinner is coming from. All Meals on Wheels programs offer the option of receiving frozen or cold meals in advance so that recipients will have a meal available on Thanksgiving and the days following.

But with the holidays quickly approaching, it’s not uncommon for us to receive many requests for hot meals, specifically on Thanksgiving Day, and inquiries about Thanksgiving volunteer opportunities!

Below are a few options to consider if you and your family are interested in giving back to the local community before giving thanks this year.

Walk to End Hunger

One family-friendly opportunity to support Meals on Wheels this November is The Walk to End Hunger! Join us in fundraising for No Hunger November.

Your support helps ensure that local seniors receive the nutrition they need and a friendly face to bring cheer, companionship, and comfort to their homes. Every$6 we raise helps get meals into one of your neighbors’ hands and allows them to live more independently.

The Walk to End Hunger event is an excellent opportunity to discuss and experience the importance of helping others with your family. It’s a perfect way to give back and make a difference!

About the Event

Held on Thanksgiving Day at the Mall of America, we gather with thousands of fellow Minnesotans. Since its inception (2008), the Walk to End Hunger has raised over $3 million to help support hunger relief organizations. In fact, 100% of the net proceeds are distributed to its partner organizations.

This event is a true collaboration of hunger relief partner agencies that work together to eliminate hunger in the Twin Cities and across the state of Minnesota.

How to Register

If you decide to join us at the MOA, you’ll discover designated “Fun Zones” stationed through the mall, so you and your team will find something to entertain the group around every corner.

Pre-Thanksgiving Meal Delivery

Most of our member programs deliver an extra meal for reheating in the days leading up to November 24th.

Meals on Wheels is always accepting donations to support our work of providing seniors and those living with disabilities with warm, nutritious meals. You can donate to Meals on Wheels to help in our efforts.

If you make your gift between November 1st through the 17th, as part of Give to the Max Day, you can unlock a matching donation from the Richard M. Schulze Foundation.

Thanksgiving Day Volunteer Opportunities

Limited spots are available to volunteer at the Walk to End Hunger on Thanksgiving morning.

Volunteering for Meals on Wheels can be done all year long—not just around Thanksgiving or Christmas time. So if you’re looking for ways to give back and make an impact in the lives of others, you can start with something as simple as making a donation or volunteering to help make someone’s life better with a friendly face and a freshly cooked meal.

Happy Thanksgiving!
